Waldameer Birthday Trip

August 18th, 2026

On a whim one August evening I relized Waldameer Park in Erie Pennsylvania was only 2.5 hours away from Sandusky. I also managed to convince Luke and Nate to come with me on a whim to Waldammer Park. This random and unplanned visit to Waldameer would help turn around my rather lackluster Birthday, and would be my favorite park day this summer.

After driving along the Lake Erie shoreline on I90, we finally made it to Waldameer at 1pm. After getting into the park and grabbing our ridebands, we went and started our day with Whirlwind, Pirates Cove, and Whacky Shack.

Whacky Shack and Pirates Cove are both indoor attractions, with Pirates Cove being a walk through, and Whakcy Shack being a dark ride. Both are filled with old dark ride charm, which I am a fan of.

Normally, I would skip a ride like Ravine Flyer 3 if there is a line, but with it both Nate and Luke's first time to Waldameer, I rode with them. For a custom Miler, it was really fun. I like the setting with the water and the Ferris Wheel behind it.

We got some cookies after our ride, and they were really good. I got chocolate chip, while Nate got M&M, and Luke got peanut butter. We followed with a ride on Comet, which reminded me a lot of Little Dipper at SFGAm, and a ride on the parks carousel.

After our ride on the Carousel, we tried to ride Mega Vortex, but it was closed. We decided to go ride Steel Dragon and XScream. Both were really fun, but Nate sat out on the drop tower.

After XScream, we finally made it to the highlight of the park, Ravine Flyer II. This Gravity Group woodie is, in Luke's words, a mini Voyage. It used to be my favorite wooden coaster, until Shivering Timbers and Boss beat it out. We all agreed to get our picture on the ride, so we sat in the front for a better picture. Nate had a hot take that GoldStriker at CGA was smooter then Ravine Flyer II. I disagreed, but I won't fight too closely.

After our ride on Ravine Flyer, Nate needed a small break, so we rode Sky Ride and the Ferris Wheel while Luke rode the Log Flume. We both agreed the views were very pretty from the top of both rides.

After we met back up, we got one more ride on Ravine Flyer and Mega Vortex, then got some merch before heading out for dinner.

My first visit back to Waldameer in 2 years was very fun, and a great way to celebrate my birthday. I am very glad Luke and Nate came out with me. This park is full of so much charm being on Lake Erie in a way that Cedar Point doesn't have. I liked how we were only there for 4 hours, but rode everything we wanted to.

I also liked our dinner we had afterward. It was a local Italian place, and it was so good. I can't wait to come back out next summer to ride Eagle's Pursuit when it opens, hopefully with more people and more good memories.
