Winchester Mystery House

September 10th, 2026
My first full day in California, Nate and I would do many things. Nate had a Doctor's appointment, and a quick hair appointment in the morning. After lunch at Togo's with Nate's parents, we made our way to what I think is one of the coolest buildings I have ever been to: The Winchester Mystery House.
After we arrived to the house and got our tickets, we caught the 2pm tour. One of the first things we got to see was stairs to nowhere. Our tour guide told us there is a few of these around the house, along with doors and windows that lead to nothing. I thought it looked so interesting.

We were told that the house is over 24,000 sqf, and how it was built for over 38 years without any real planning to it. It was very facinating to learn all about it.

As we walked through the house, Nate pointed out how it wasn't too hot inside, even with it being near 100f outside while we were there. We discussed this as we entered a sun room, which was very warm in side. The sun room lead to another room used as storage space. It was interesting to see how Sarah Winchester just kept building onto the house.

After our main tour, Nate and I took some time to explore the outside of the house before doing the basement and attic tour. The house is very pretty, and I apprecite the architecture of the place.

The attic and basement were very eerie. A few times I felt like I didn't belong, especially in the basement. The areas we got to see were very cool though.

The Winchester House was the best way to start the trip. I got to see something I had heard about on TV growing up, and it tickled the designer part of me. It was so much fun going with Nate, and I’d gladly go back again. The next few days of the trip would be just as fun and interesting as we continued exploring the Golden State of California.
